Pallam Raju calls on Omar
Srinagar, July 26- Union Minister of State for Defence, M. M. Pallam Raju who arrived here yesterday for a two day visit, called on Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today and discussed with him various issues pertaining to the economic development in Jammu and Kashmir.

During the meeting besides other issues, the focus was on the construction of various tunnels in the state. Omar Abdullah underscored the importance of construction of tunnels in various areas especially on Zojila and Gurez to open up backward and far flung areas for faster economic development. He said the topography and difficult mountainous terrains of the state call for construction of tunnels to shorten the distances and make journeys on roads more safe and smooth.

The Chief Minister also referred to the massive road communication programme launched by the State government to upgrade and improve the road communication facilities in rural and urban areas in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Union Minister assured full support to the state government in its endeavour to strengthen and improve road communication in the state for economic betterment of the people in general and particularly for those living in far off places.
